Stuffed Animal Birthday Parties

Are you thinking, huh? Read on. I'm not completely crazy.

If your kids are anything like mine, they are planning their next birthday party months in advance. A couple years ago, my son told me what party theme he wanted for the next five years, but I guarantee he doesn't remember what he requested. Honestly, I think all they are interested in is having cake. My kids' birthdays aren't until fall and I generally don't make cake just because, so I came up with an idea that would not only create some fun memories, but would feed their cravings until we celebrate their birthdays.

I asked my kids if they wanted to celebrate the birthdays of their most prized possessions - their lovey animals. They answered with a very excited, "YES!" Again, I think they were just happy about getting cake, but that was the idea. My daughter's lovey, Pink Puppy, and my son's lovey, Pooh, are extensions of the family and my kids often treat them as if they are real pets.

I asked each child to pick a date to mark their animal's birthday. They told me how old their animal was turning and what kind of cake they wanted to make. We made simple party hats for the animal and the respective child using scrapbook paper and a template I found here. Everything was kept pretty low key, but I know it meant a lot to my kids. I got to spend quality time with them and they got to have cake...twice. I'd say that's a win-win.

What crazy fun events or activities have you done with your kids that involved handmade goodness? I'd love to hear.
